ABOUT JOURDAIN

Jourdain Searles is a writer, critic, film programmer and comedian. After leaving her hometown of Augusta, GA in 2014, Jourdain pursued an MFA in Dramatic Writing at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Upon completing her degree in 2016, she put down roots in New York City and currently resides in Brooklyn. Her work focuses on film, comedy, feminism and critical analysis.

FILM

Jourdain has written for The New York Times, Vanity Fair, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, Sight & Sound Magazine, GQ, Nylon, Indiewire, Vulture, Fangoria, Thrillist, Bitch Media, Hyperallergic, Reverse Shot and Okayplayer, among many other publications.

Jourdain has served on juries for the following festivals: Melbourne International Film Festival, Fantasia Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, San Francisco Film Festival, Indie Memphis, Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival, Bushwick Film Festival, Longshots, and Long Distance Film Fest. She has also guest programmed at the Tribeca Film Festival. Jourdain is currently a features programmer for Outfest LA. She is also a member of GALECA (The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics) and AAFCA (The African American Film Critics Association).

Locally, Jourdain has programmed film screenings at Nitehawk Cinema, Alamo Drafthouse, and the Roxy Theatre in New York City. She has given film introductions and moderated Q&As at theaters such as Lincoln Center, The Museum of the Moving Image, Metrograph, IFC Center, Quad Cinema, DGA New York, Museum of the City of New York, and Angelika Film Center.

COMEDY

Jourdain has performed stand-up comedy at Union Hall, Littlefield, The Stand NYC, QED Astoria, Caveat, Broadway Comedy Club, The PIT, Good Good Comedy Theatre, Under St. Marks, The Well, Soho Playhouse and UCB East, among many other venues.

She has also been a performer at the She Makes Me Laugh Comedy Festival, Black Women in Comedy Laff Fest, Reel Love Film Festival, Brooklyn Podcast Festival and Bad B*tch Revolution Fest.

In addition to her stand-up comedy, Jourdain is the creator and cohost of the Bad Romance Podcast.
